McKinney is two towns in one. Around the historic square the houses are older, the lots are irregular and a deck often has to step down to meet ground that is not level. Out west toward 121 it is the same new-build picture as Frisco: flat slab, no shade, everything to build.

Older McKinney lots are the more interesting work. A deck that steps with the ground rather than fighting it looks like it belongs to the house, and it avoids the tall skirted box that happens when you insist on one level.

Composite with black metal railing suits the newer side; cedar and painted rail usually suits the older. Worth talking through before anything is priced.
